Students and staff at the University of Lincoln – you can now upload full-text PDF files from your computer and attach them to item references in your RefWorks account.
The RefWorks attachment feature…
“…enables users to attach non-bibliographic information to their references in their personal database, much like attaching files to an email message. The incorporation of this feature allows users to upload files to existing references stored within their RefWorks database. With the availability of this feature RefWorks users can instantly save and retrieve all forms of data within their database including BMP, TIF, JPG, PNG, GIF, PDF, and much more.”
By default, your attachments are limited to 100MB in total – however this can be increased (up to an absolute maximum of 5GB) on request. There is also a 20MB limit per attachment. Attachments are private to you – they will not be shared when you share a link to your RefWorks folder(s) using RefShare. See these FAQs for more information.
Here’s how to add attachments to item references in RefWorks:
1. Log in to your RefWorks account. If you’re off campus, you’ll need to log in using your network\accountID and password.
2. Next to the item you want to attach a PDF to, click on the ‘edit‘ icon (which looks like a piece of paper and a pencil).

3. Look towards the bottom of the ‘Edit Reference’ window which appears and you should see an ‘Attachments‘ option. Choose the PDF file from your computer and it will be uploaded your RefWorks account, attached to the item reference.

That’s it! Any questions, please contact RefWorks@lincoln.ac.uk
